Platelet-Rich Plasma - PRP Facelift
Dr. Evdokimow

The Platelet-Rich Plasma procedure or PRP is a recently developed procedure based on regenerative medicine and offers New Jersey facelift patients the opportunity to plump and rejuvenate their face with a non-surgical procedure that does not require injecting acids, toxins or fat into the body. Actually, the main ingredient for this wrinkle-removing treatment is the patient’s own blood. With the

About Platelet-Rich Plasma in New Jersey

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, which has been used for years to initiate and accelerate connective tissue healing across many fields of medicine, including cardiovascular surgery, musculoskeletal medicine and orthopedics. Now, PRP can be applied to facial tissue to reverse the aging process. The platelets are derived from the patient’s own blood and activated to release healing proteins called growth factors, which are then used to make the wrinkle-fighting and volume-restoring injectable filler.

To activate the platelets, Dr. Evdokimow first draws a small amount of the patient’s blood and uses special technology called Selphyl to separate the platelet portion from the other main components of the blood (plasma, red and white blood cells). The concentrated platelets are then injected deep in the skin or just below the skin. This refinement triggers the platelets’ healing power by tricking them into believing that the body has been injured. In response to the “induced tissue damage,” the platelets begin to release seven different growth factors, thereby promoting the development of new skin, new blood flow, new collagen and new tissue for more volume and truly younger-looking skin.

The PRP facelift combines leading-edge technology with the body’s natural ability to heal itself and can be used to treat a variety of facial aesthetic concerns, including:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Skin laxity around the eyes
  • Fine wrinkles around the mouth
  • Marionette lines
  • Loss of facial volume
  • Gray or pale skin

Before the Procedure

Prior to the PRP facelift procedure, Dr. Evdokimow will carefully evaluate the patient’s skin characteristics and aesthetic concerns to ensure his or her candidacy. The patient’s medical history and use of drugs/supplements will be carefully reviewed.

In general, anyone who qualifies for facial injectables and dermal fillers can undergo the
PRP facelift procedure. In fact, patients who may have allergic reactions to Botox and other injectables may be excellent candidates for the
PRP facelift. However, it is important to mention that PRP facelift delivers temporary and subtle cosmetic results, which cannot be compared to the outcomes obtained through the more permanent surgical facelift procedure.

In order to maintain the results of the PRP facelift, a maintenance injection is recommended every nine to 12 months.

The Procedure

The PRP facelift procedure is performed at Dr. Evdokimow’s elegantly appointed plastic surgery practice in New Jersey. The treatment time is about 30 minutes, and the results become fully evident over the next 12 weeks.

The procedure begins with the drawing of a specified amount of blood from a vein in the patient’s arm. The blood is then quickly processed to isolate the platelets. The platelets are mixed with calcium chloride, a special mixture, which activates their healing power and forms an injectable gel-based substance.

The gel is then injected into multiple areas of the face to induce the growth of new collagen, skin tissue and blood vessels around the injection sites. Most often it is used to treat facial hollowness, nasolabial folds and other subtle yet unsightly signs of aging. During the procedure, the treatment areas are numbed with a topical anesthetic for maximum patient comfort.

PRP facelift can be performed shortly after or before other types of facial rejuvenation treatments, including laser skin resurfacing, eyelid lift surgery, rhinoplasty, ear surgery and chin augmentation, depending on each patient’s aesthetic desires. In some cases, the procedure can be carried out at the same time as facial fat transfer for maximum volume-restoration results.

After Treatment

After the PRP facelift procedure, patients are able to return to work and their daily activities immediately. During the next few days, patients may experience mild discomfort and swelling at the injection sites, which should subside fairly quickly. A subtle and more youthful facial appearance begins to become apparent within a few days and continues to improve for several weeks.

It is important to mention that while the PRP facelift is a relatively safe procedure, there have been no long-term studies regarding its effectiveness. Just like any cosmetic and medical procedure,
PRP facelift may lead to rare complications, which will be discussed with you in great detail at Dr. Evdokimow’s NJ cosmetic surgery practice.
